Youth Volunteerism Promoting World Peace


The global disasters facing our world today have sectors constantly looking for a new alternative and finding that the solution is our youth. Youth volunteerism has been noticed as an important tool for aiding natural disasters, education, social development, and peace building. For further efforts to empower youth volunteers the UNESCAP, in collaboration with UNESCO, the Global Peace Foundation and the Global Young Leaders Academy launched the Asia-Pacific Conference on Youth Volunteerism to Promote Participation, Development and Peace on 28 October 2014 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.

The meeting engaged over 200 participants from all sectors of society, including representatives of government agencies dealing with youth issues, civil society, development partners, and the private sector.

Peace Revolution was invited to be a participant in the event, aiming to find new collaborative networks in bringing future peace projects. Three members of the Peace Crew from Thailand Kanit Teerathumaskul, Kopboon Chansuk, and Panutda Tayoke participated in the conference.

The forum gave floor to engaging workshops with lively debates and discussions on enhancing partnerships in the sectors of peace and development, health and environment service, disasters, youth engagement through social network and youth volunteer exchange.

When natural disasters have occurred, youth volunteers were one of the groups who stepped in showing that society needs the power of youth volunteers to help make the world a better place. Though there is still insufficient numbers of volunteers, there is a larger number of potential youth who have the capability but are unable to see how they can be of help. Peace Revolution is a youth agency that promotes world peace through inner peace by training young people to find their inner self and potential within, to understanding how significant they can be in shaping our world.
