Peace Revolution at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

I have been volunteering in Peace Revolution Peru since last year. I'm a peace rebel and I’m happy to be part of the revolution. I am grateful to have shared many great moments with the other volunteers. And this weekend wasn't an exception.

Peace Revolution was invited to participate in a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). At this event exhibitors talked about what it takes to be a leader. Not only do you need to know how to lead a group, but also how to contribute the community.

In other words, to be a leader means that you set aside self-interest and turn it into a collective interest in which everyone gets the same benefit. This is only possible with cooperation and teamwork. There is a famous phrase by Alexandre Dumas “All for one and one for all.” It means that all the members of a group have ONE common goal and all are willing to work together to reach that ONE goal. And it’s the leader’s responsibility to manage the team. For this to happen, a leader must have control of his emotions and control of the members in the group. Practicing meditation will help you achieve this because when you find inner peace, you create harmony which is transmitted to others.

It was the first time that an “orange man” participated in a RYLA. When the monk arrived with a big smile saying “Hola” to everyone, I felt a warm soothing feeling. It was nice to see his smile reflected in the smiles of the young leaders. The meditation session guided by the monk was pleasant and practicing yoga “kaleidoscopio” with everyone was relaxing and a lot of fun. The purpose of yoga was to create strength, awareness, and harmony in both the body and mind. It was a new experience for others and for myself as a volunteer. The message of Peace Revolution was simple, “In order to change the world, we need to start from changing ourselves.” So in the end, it is up to you to make a difference and bring benefits to your community and the world.

The following are statements of participants who attended the RYLA event: “Everyone was interested and passionate about creating positive changes in their communities and the world” said Liam Ortiz. “It was a pleasure meeting all of the new individuals over the course of these days, becoming friends with them, and mainly just feeling welcomed to the group” said Garret Tucker. “Attending the RYLA was a very enriching experience as it has motivated me to continue discovering the leader inside me” said Eylin Pérez. Like these participants, the rest of the young leaders are very impressive. There is no doubt that they will do great things for the world.

WPI envisions sustainable change happening when each and every one of us works towards their own self-development. Thus, we have created free and accessible tools for the empowerment and wellbeing of individuals worldwide, regardless of age, race, religion, cultural background.
