Understanding and Working with Conflict –

Training of Trainers in Peace Education

Barcelona, 7-14th of September 2014

September 2014 - ‘Training of Trainers in Peace Education’ was an event that took place in Barcelona, Spain that brought together 20 young people from several countries around Europe and Caucasus region.

The event was hosted by Fundacio Catalunya Voluntaria and co-organised together with UNOY (United Network of Young Peacebuilders), Peace Revolution (World Peace Initiative Foundation UK) and Generations’ Solidarity Youth NGO Armenia. It was co-funded by the European Youth Foundation. The event was an 8-day training course for peace and conflict practitioners/ trainers/ multipliers/educators/teachers.

Training of Trainers (ToT) aimed to provide participants with facilitation and training skills necessary to support communication processes in conflict contexts. It uses experiential learning methods to facilitate learning that is focused on communication, inter and intra-personal skills. In this ToT, key skills and competences of a facilitator and trainer were presented and put into practice. It included an overview of communication and conflict theories and tools, constructive responses to conflict, principles of non-formal learning methodologies, including training concepts related to comfort zones and conflict sensitivity.

The training was innovative due to the fact that it included a strong inner peace dimension, as we consider it to be an integrative part of the holistic approach towards peacebuilding. The participants could explore daily meditation sessions led by Peace Revolution’s Peace Architects throughout the program and they also experienced the online self-development

We are excited to be part of such an initiative and we would like to thank all the partners for such a beautiful collaboration!
