YoUr-Turn! Training Course On Peace Education Within International Youth Work Austria, 4th – 8th November 2013
In November 2013, a Youth In Action training course for Peace Education Within International Youth Work took place in Austria, organised by the Austrian National Youth Agency Interkulturelles Zentrum. The aim of this training course was to empower participants to actively deal with conflicts among or within youth groups in order to contribute to peaceful conflict settlement with young people.
Participants and trainers represented many interesting projects and organisations within the peace, education and youth work fields from Europe and were from 16 different countries including, UK, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Austria, Tunisia, Cyprus, Georgia, Jordan, Russia, Spain and Poland.
The participants gained theoretical and practical knowledge on peace, learning creative and communicative methods for conflict resolution, sharing experiences and challenges from current realities as well as good practices within projects.
Furthermore, the seminar enabled participants as well as trainers to explore possibilities and potentials of international exchanges for peace education and conflict resolution in youth work.
The aims and objectives of the training were as follows:
Aims and Objectives:- provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as with practical tools for approaching conflicts and improve conflict resolution skills;
- raise awareness and empower participants to actively manage conflicts in a youth environment;
- get to know existing realities, share experience and good practices;
- networking among participants and partnership building.
Peace Architect Tissione Parmar from United Kingdom led a meditation workshop explaining about the internal aspects of peace-building as a tool for peace education within international youth work.
